Art in the ambulatory

Now these old churches also have extra artwork lying around, and Chartres was no exception. Here’s a whole wall of yet more Biblical / apocryphal scenes in the ambulatory (ie: the space between the altar and the very back of the church). The family consensus was that it was definitely younger than the Cathedral, being sculpted in pure white stone (or plaster?) in hyperrealistic Renaissance style. Turns out these were done by a variety of artists, from the mid 1500’s to the early 1700’s.
