Bust of Louis XIV

Next in the State Apartments is the Salon of Diana. It used to be a games room where the King would play billiards with guests in the evening. Etiquette strongly suggested you let the King win.

This superb baroque bust was made by the great master sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini, fresh off creating statues and colonnades for St. Peter’s in Rome.
