American Avocet
One of four American Avocets hanging around this pond. I saw one of these last November, and it looks like it may have told its friends. Or these are four new fools that lost their way.
Because these beautiful, elegant little shorebirds really shouldn’t be here. They summer in the plains states and a bit of the PNW, and winter in Mexico and Baja California. It’s possible that some Oregonian ones wandered over here! Such things totally happen. Hopefully they get turned around quick; but if not, this may not be such a bad place to spend the cold season.
