Downtown Reykjavik

Flying in, taking a look at downtown by the harbour.

Some important landmarks:

• The split black building at upper left is the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre
• The wedge-shaped building near the centre, higher than its neighbours, is the Iceland Dick Museum—sadly not on our itinerary, and I’d totally forgotten about it until we were on our way out of town
• The park contains a statue (southeast / upper right) of Ingólfur Arnarson, commonly recognised as the first permanent Norse settler of Iceland. According to tradition he, along with his wife and brother, founded Reykjavik in 874 CE.
• The plain-looking white house with grey roof to the right of the park, itself surrounded by green, is the Prime Minister’s office.
