Greater scaup, female

I may have seen these ducks at Burnaby Lake last spring, but never in these parts. Yet we’ve had a few dozen hanging around the reedy part of Lost Lagoon for a couple weeks now. Maybe this is a thing they do in early spring and I keep missing them (or not paying attention)
