Honeybee on lavender flowers

Fun Fact: honeybees have two pairs of wings, which you can see pretty well in this photo. The rear wings are much smaller, and have barbs that lock with the front wings when in flight. This means they effectively only have one pair to fly with, and can’t approach the funky acrobatics of e.g. dragonflies.

It seems all hymenopterans have the same wing setup, which I wouldn’t have expected from predators like wasps. But I guess they make it work?
