“La Goulue”
“La Goulue” was a can-can dancer at the Moulin Rouge, and for a few years one of the biggest and highest paid stars in Paris. She has been immortalised in paintings by Toulouse-Lautrec, who was a regular at the Moulin Rouge and a close friend of hers. Her nickname means, more or less, “the glutton”, for her habit of downing men’s drinks while flirting with them at their table.
