Red-breasted Sapsucker

I was drawn to these trees by the distinctive piercing call of a Northern Flicker and waaaaait you’re not a flicker! What are you then? Merlin ID says: Red-breasted Sapsucker. They drill shallow wells into bark and lap up the sap. Many insects and other birds rely on those sap wells to supplement their diets.
