Tombelaine
This outcropping about 3km away north is called Tombelaine. The name probably has the same origin as Mont Tombe, Mont Saint-Michel’s original name. At various times it hosted a church (Notre-Dame de la Gisante / Notre-Dame de Tombelaine), an English garrison during the Hundred Years War, and various refugees from France’s religion wars. It is currently managed by the state as a wild bird refuge.
