Tropical Kingbirds

A group of birders near the entrance were excitedly training their cameras / binocs out at the slough. Apparently a small group of Tropical Kingbirds were there, flitting from tree to tree and being harassed by blackbirds. With help, I managed to capture two.

You might think something called “tropical” shouldn’t be found this far north in the fall, and you’d be right! These birds normally range in Central and South America… but vagrants happen! That’s the weirdness and beauty of birds. Or maybe we should blame climate change: as equatorial regions get too hot, species have to spread out to find more suitable lands.
